About Me

I am Yutong (Max) Zhu, a Sociology Ph.D. student at the University of Chicago. I completed an M.A. in Computational Social Science at UChicago in 2025 and a B.S. in Computer Science and History at Carnegie Mellon University in 2022.

Research Interests

• Sociology of Culture: language, word embedding, pragmatism
• Computational Social Science: LLM interpretability, digital minds
• History: identity, ideology, nationalism

• [Jun. 2022 – Feb. 2023] Worked as a Data Engineer at Stellar Cyber Sensor Team.
• [May. 2022] Received the Ludwig Schaefer Award for Outstanding Achievement in History at Carnegie Mellon University.
